The Boys From County Hell
History
Originally formed in the summer of 1991 at an Irish Folk Festival in Mell, Somerset.
Dave(Riff )Mehaffy & DaveYoung jammed along on whistle & guitar with Ronan Doherty joining in on bass. Soon after an arranged gig at ‘Spangles’, Calne, Wilts. Supporting another band.Their drummer, Simon Bewley sits in for the crack & after the gig, joins the band full time. Sid Sidlow joins later on mandolin.
Ronan vanishes to Ireland? Tony Green is recruited on bass at last minute for a local gig. Hugo James enlisted playing accordion. Recorded live tapes at ‘Mulligans’, Bath.
Ronan re-appears in France for gigs with nothing to play!
Sid leaves to join the circus. Anthony McMarton (Churchfitters) gives Ronan 10 minute lesson on the mandolin, and he rejoins. Van from County Hell purchased (that’s another story…).
Gig, gig,gig Record 3 Demo track Dec ’92. Play on T.V (famous for 15 minutes). Drink, drink, drink. Record ‘’What’ll you have? Nov ’93. Continue gigging at the likes of ‘’The Mean Fiddler’’, ‘’The Venue’’. ‘’Gosport Festival’’ supporting ‘’The Saw Doctors’’. Hugo leaves.
Dave leaves to manage heavy metal band. Audition for competent guitarist – no one found. End up with Billy Robinson.Paul McEvoy joins after seeing him play before us at the’’Pavillion’’, Bath. Continue gigging Birmingham, Coventry, Oxford, Manchester,

One for the Road’
Sad to say… we must be on our way…
The Boys from County Hell
Held their last gig on Saturday 8th September 2007
There was an oversight as it was intended
for Beversbrook.
Therefore our thanks to ‘The Rising Sun’,
Bowden Hill the gig was realised.
Everyone had a memorable evening, and the
large sum of £2,400
was raised, and donated
to Great Ormond Street Hospital, London.
